What does WHAT IF actually do?

It answers "what if I'd bought that a while ago?" with a real number. You pick an amount, an asset, and a time frame; WHAT IF finds the price back then and the price now, and shows today's value, your profit or loss, the return percentage, and how many units your money would have bought.

Which assets are supported?

Currently: crypto (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Dogecoin, XRP), gold, the Nasdaq and S&P 500 indices, and individual stocks like NVIDIA and Tesla. We add more over time — suggest one via the contact page.

What time frames can I choose?

From 1 month up to 5 years (1M, 3M, 6M, 1Y, 2Y, 3Y, 5Y), measured back from today.

Is this financial advice?

No. WHAT IF is informational and entertainment software. The numbers are hypothetical illustrations, not recommendations. Past performance does not predict future results. See our terms & disclaimer.

Why does my number differ from my exchange or broker?

A few reasons: we exclude fees, spreads, slippage, and taxes; we use daily closing prices from public data providers that can differ slightly from your platform; and live prices may lag the very latest tick by a minute or two because of caching. The full list of assumptions is in the methodology.

Are the prices real and live?

Yes. Crypto and gold prices come from Binance and refresh about once a minute; indices and stocks come from Yahoo Finance. If a source is briefly unreachable, the Site uses a recent cached snapshot so it keeps working.

Do you include dividends or staking rewards?

No. Index values are price levels (not total return), and we don't add stock dividends or crypto staking rewards. Real-world holdings could have earned more.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It's completely free and there's no sign-up. The Site is supported by ads and we don't sell your data — details in the privacy policy.

Can I share a result?

Yes — hit "Share my result" to generate an image and a deep link that reopens the exact same scenario for whoever you send it to.
