Privacy Policy

WHAT IF ("we", "us", the "Site") is an informational tool that estimates what a past investment would be worth today. We built it to be light on data: there are no accounts, no logins, and your calculations run in your own browser. This page explains the limited data that is involved and the third parties we rely on.

1. Information we collect

We do not ask you to register, and we do not collect names, email addresses, or payment details through the Site itself. The only data involved is:

• Inputs you type (investment amount, asset, time horizon). These are processed in your browser to produce a result and may be stored locally on your device (see "Local storage" below). They are not transmitted to us.
• Standard server logs. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may automatically log technical request data (IP address, browser type, timestamp, requested URL) for security and reliability, as is normal for any website.
• Data from third parties you choose to contact us through — for example, if you email us, we receive your email address and message.

2. Cookies and local storage

The core WHAT IF tool does not require cookies to function. We use your browser's local storage to cache market prices and remember your last inputs so the page loads faster on a return visit. You can clear this at any time from your browser settings; doing so does not break the Site.

Separately, the third-party services described below — in particular our advertising partner — may set their own cookies. Those are governed by their policies, not ours.

3. Advertising — Google AdSense

We display ads served through Google AdSense to keep the Site free. The following disclosures are required and apply:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.

4. Market data providers

To show prices and history, the Site requests public market data from third-party sources (such as Binance and Yahoo Finance) — sometimes directly from your browser and sometimes via our edge cache. Those requests are subject to the providers' own terms. We do not share your inputs with them; only generic price symbols are requested.

5. How we use data

We use the limited data above only to operate, secure, and improve the Site, to serve ads, and to respond to messages you send us. We do not sell your personal information.

6. Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

7. Your choices

• Clear local storage and cookies via your browser at any time.
• Opt out of personalised ads using the links in section 3.
• Use a tracker-blocking extension — the calculator still works.
• Contact us to ask about any data associated with a message you sent.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Site evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
